Refining and downloading
Last updated: 2026-05-12
Printytron is a chat. After the first model appears, keep talking.
Things that work well:
- “Make it 30mm wide instead of 25.”
- “Add a chamfer on the top edge, 2mm.”
- “The mounting holes are too close to the edge — move them 5mm in.”
- “Make the wall 1mm thicker.”
- “Remove the slot in the front.”
- “The version before this one was better. Go back to that and just make it taller.”
Iterate one change at a time when refining. “Make it wider AND add a chamfer AND move the holes” — you'll get all three changes but lose track of which one went wrong if something does. One change per prompt makes diagnosis easy.
The AI keeps full context across the session, so back-references work. “The part you just made,” “the version before,” “that hole” — all fine.
The truth
Iteration is free. Use it.
FactsEach refinement counts as one prompt. The prompts cap is per build session — when you start a new model, your prompt count resets. Anonymous users get five prompts per model. Registered users get twenty-five. (See the accounts and quotas article.)
If the AI ever asks you a question — usually a font picker, occasionally a one-question check on a missing detail — answer it. It's only asking when answering will make the result much better than guessing.
Downloading your STL
When the model is right, hit Download STL.
A dialog appears with two fields:
- Name (pre-filled — the AI suggests one based on the conversation).
- Description (also pre-filled, also editable, also required).
You can edit either. There's a checkbox to include the model in the public gallery — on by default. Untick it if you want the download but not the listing.
Hit Download. The STL hits your machine. The model becomes a permanent gallery listing at its own shareable URL.
Important
Every download is its own snapshot.
Important: each download is frozen at that moment. If you keep editing the same session and download again, you get a second gallery listing. The first one isn't affected. Download as many iterations of a part as you want — they're all separate, all permanent.
Download iterations. If a model looks 80% right and you're about to refine it, download it first. You'll have the 80%-right version frozen as a fallback. The next refinement might be worse, and the gallery snapshot lets you go back without losing it.
The STL is universal. Drop it into Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, Cura, OrcaSlicer — any slicer.
